Where’s my Cassius Belli in Europe game

Posted in Strategy game

Ok, i posted this in FAQ, but no one answered, so hopefully someone will on here. I was playing Prussia where i controlled most of modern Germany plus Bohemia. I was allied with Saxony, Hannover, Denmark, and Haseanistic League, with Saxony and Hannover vassalized and all +200. I got Lorraine for Hannover in a war with France, and after a few years Lorraine declared its independance from Hannover and declared war. I was the only one that honored the alliance. I got pop-up messages that said “so and so country dared to dishonor…you now have a CB on them”, but in my diplomatic window i do not have a CB, so i thought maybe i really did, but it didnt say, and when i declared war i lost 3 stab. why did i not get a CB, why can they dishonor my alliance without reprucussions?

Perhaps this is a BiB question, but I believe that if it’s not a bug, only Hanover would have Casus Belli on your former allies since it is technically her war. That’s really the only explanation I can think of for it…

That is what i assumed, but it seems like i should have one too, after all it was my alliance, and they defaulted on it, they need to be punished, so i just took the stability hit, no big deal but i was just wondering why this occured.

I am glad someone raised this point. I have had similas CB problems in the past. Even worse, the diplomatic window informed me that I had a CB against such and such a country. Only when I declaired war, I too got hit with a stability loss. Frustrating.:confused:o

There are many CB problems in this game. One that I don’t understand is why as a Catholic country do I not get a CB against those nations that go Portestant while I have one against me by all Catholic countries when I play a Protestant one?

As for the original question, maybe this is the answer. You only get the CB for one year, so if you don’t use the CB until after you finish the riginal war, and you take more than a year to finish the original war, then you lose your chance. It sucks, but you pretty much have to take them all on at once if you want to partake of theose CBs.

IMO, the rule should be one year from the end of the original war that caused the CB, but that ain’t the way it works.

Counter-Reformed Catholic states get CB against Protestant states; I’ve had this plenty of time when I’ve played Spain or Austria.

Also maybe if you are not the alliance leader you don’t get the CB.

i was alliance leader

i declared war the day after they defaulted on the alliance

i dont think it is a bug, it is just stupid and unfair how a lot of the CBs work, especially as tiberius209 mentioned with the religious ones

Maybe this relates (though I haven’t tested it to see if it would happen again)…. I am playing an IGC as Genoa, and I declared war on Milan, to rid me of their evil yoke (Genoa starts as a vassal of Milan). The mahjong declaration of war popup said I would lose -3 stability (-1 for same religion, -2 for no CB) if I declared war. I declared war and my stability dropped from +3 to -3. Now, I seem to remember somewhere reading that when vassals declare war on their overlords they automatically drop to -3, but shouldn’t the popup have warned me?

AFAIK CBs are updated monthly as are a lot of other things in this game.

So if you get a CB, either from alliance wimpouts or trade refusals just wait for the 1. of the next month

Btw, why doesn’t Sweden-Finland get an casus belli against Russia? I mean that they’ve been enemies for many centuries, or even thousand years!

hardly for thousand years, neither of the countries existed 1000 years before the begining of the EU period. But they should maybe have a CB shield in Ingermanland.

When someone dishonors an alliance everyone has CB on them, but its only temporary, I like like 6 months or a year. And when you’re in the middle of a war adding another enemy isn’t the first thing on my mind (or USUALLY not). And time flies when you’re fighting that war.

i.e. You start a war, Milan chooses to dishonor an alliance. You fight a war lasting about 2 years, and decide to come back and take revenge on the Milanese for turning their backs on you. Your CB is already gone since you spent the last 2 years fighting another war instead of declaring war on them right away.
